A furlough can bring up a lot of emotions — uncertainty, frustration, even fear. It’s completely okay to feel all of that. But here’s the thing: this season doesn’t define you. It’s temporary, and with the right mindset, it can even become a setup for your next breakthrough.
I'm right there with you - going through a furlough with a lot uncertainty. However, what I've learned over the years and through my spiritual practice is to focus on the positive while staying at peace, trusting God and the Universe's master plan. I have adopted the belief that everything is work out in my favor and that challenges happen for me vs to me. With this mindset, I am able to turn my mindset into a victor vs a victim.
The Manifest Life is about turning moments of pause into moments of power so I hope these 7 ways to stay positive, keep your peace, and use this time to reset and rise stronger will help you if you're going through a furlough or any other challenges that may come your way.
Shift your mindset from “Why me?” to “What is this trying to show me?” This perspective change can be life-giving. Maybe this time is meant for you to rest, realign, or even pivot toward something that better fits your purpose.
I know it may be difficult to shift your mindset but attempt to focus on the positive aspects of it versus negative. Remember, whatever you focus more on will expand. Why not focus more on the positive aspects which will expand and attract more positive things.
Affirmation: “This pause is preparing me for something greater.”
Your peace is priceless — don’t let circumstances steal it. Do small things that bring joy: morning walks, dancing in your kitchen, journaling, or making your favorite smoothie. Joy is medicine for the soul, especially when life feels uncertain.
No one or nothing can take your joy or peace. You have control over both, and you can choose to allow something or someone to take them, or you can choose to protect them.
Try this: end your day by writing down three small things that made you smile or what you're grateful for.
Doing this helps your mind focus on what’s still good despite of the chaos and uncertainty.
Everyone’s situation looks different, and that’s okay. Take time to explore available resources — unemployment support, community programs, or temporary work opportunities.
There’s no shame in asking for help. You’re being proactive, not powerless. Start by checking your local government’s website or organizations that will assist.
Knowledge is your power.
A cluttered space can create a cluttered mind. Use this time to gently declutter your home — one drawer, one closet, one corner at a time. Light a candle, play soft music, and make it a ritual.
Clearing physical space opens room for mental clarity and emotional peace.
I have been doing a ton of decluttering and getting rid of items that no longer serve myself, my home, and my family. It's a part of focusing on what I can control and leaving the rest for prayer and the Universe to sort out.
As you release old items, whisper: “I’m making room for new blessings.”
What have you been putting on hold? Maybe it’s a course you wanted to take, a creative project, or a side business idea. Use this period to reflect and realign.
Journaling and visualization can help you see new opportunities that align with your future self.
Remember: slowing down doesn’t mean you’ve stopped — it means you’re preparing to move forward with intention.
Isolation can make tough times feel heavier. Reach out to family, friends, or online communities for connection and encouragement. You never know who might offer advice, a resource, or simply a listening ear. It is okay to be selective about who you reach out to. Ensure that the people you reach out to align with your energy and will support you in a positive, uplifting way.
If you’re feeling overwhelmed, talking it out can help lighten the load. You don’t have to go through this alone.
Chatting with a Coach may also be helpful. A Coach provides a safe space to share your thoughts uninterrupted while also asking you bold, open-ended questions to help guide you to where you would like to be. Some Coaches offer pro-bono services to assist with your needs.
You’re doing your best in this unfortunate situation, so be gentle with yourself and focus on what's in your control.
It’s okay to rest, to not have all the answers right now, and to take things one day at a time.
Healing, clarity, and new opportunities often show up when we allow ourselves to simply be. It's okay to cry to release what's no longer serving you as well.
Being furloughed is not the best feeling, but it doesn’t mean that it can take away your joy, peace, and good vibes — it’s a redirection and time for self-reflection.
You’re being guided toward something that will better serve your growth, your peace, and your purpose. Keep your faith strong, your heart open, and your mind focused on all the amazing possibilities ahead.
Take this time to declutter your space, nurture your spirit, and remember that this season is just one chapter — not your whole story.
I hope this post gives you hope and inspires you to keep the faith for more blessings in your life.
