What Not to Do During Full Moon
(So Your Energy Stays Clear & Aligned)

The full moon is one of the most powerful energetic moments of the month. She shines a bright light on your emotions, your thoughts, your habits, and even the things you’ve been avoiding… whew. No wonder so many of us feel more sensitive, more intuitive, more emotional, or even more restless around this time.

I've found that this is a great time to shed much-needed tears.  It's very cathartic and healing for me.

8 things to not do on Full Moon

But here’s the thing…

If the full moon is all about release, clarity, and illumination, then knowing what not to do during the full moon is just as important as knowing what to do.

A lot of people unintentionally block their own manifestations, stir up unnecessary drama, or drain their energy simply because they don’t realize the full moon exaggerates everything—good or bad.

So let’s talk about what not to do during a full moon, as well as the days leading up to it and afterwards (yes, those days matter too- I call it the full moon phase), so you can stay aligned, grounded, and in your manifesting power.

1. Don’t Start New Projects or Set Brand-New Intentions

A full moon is the peak of energy—not the beginning.
While the new moon is perfect for fresh starts, the full moon is more like a spotlight showing you what’s working and what needs to be released.

So one of the most important things to understand about what not to do during the full moon is this:

✨ Don’t force new beginnings.

Instead, use this time to:

  • Reflect
  • Release
  • Let go
  • Tie up loose ends
  • Celebrate progress

If you try to start something new during a full moon, it often feels chaotic, rushed, or emotionally heavy. Save your fresh start for the new moon and let the full moon be your emotional detox.

2. Don’t Make Big Decisions Based on Heightened Emotions

Girl… full moon emotions are REAL.

You might feel:

  • More sensitive
  • More reactive
  • More intuitive
  • More emotional
  • More drained

And when your emotions are amplified like this, you may not be thinking from a grounded place. So another key item for what not to do during the full moon is:

✨ Don’t quit your job, end your relationship, cut somebody off, or send “we need to talk” messages.

Use this time to process your feelings… not take action on them.

Write them out. Sit with them. Breathe through them.

When the moon starts to wane, you’ll have a clearer head and make better decisions.

I had decided to have someone assist me with my course, and it quickly fizzled.  My intuition had said not to move forward, especially since there was a full moon, but I proceeded anyway.  Oh well, life lesson to not make any big decisions again during this time.

3. Don’t Engage in Drama, Gossip, or Arguments

Full moon energy makes everything feel bigger. That tiny comment? Feels like an attack. That slight misunderstanding? Feels like betrayal. That person who bumped you in the grocery store? Feels like a personal vendetta.

This is why one of the big reminders of what not to do during the full moon is:

✨ Don’t feed drama.
✨ Don’t take things personally.
✨ Don’t start or engage in unnecessary conflict.

Protect your peace harder than ever during this time.
People’s emotions are heightened too—not just yours.

Lean into:

  • Grace
  • Understanding
  • Space
  • Compassion
  • Boundaries

Remember… not every reaction deserves a response.

Walk away if you need to or just don't answer the phone.  I've learned to do this to simply keep my peace.  It's a game changer.

4. Don’t Overwork Yourself or Burn Out Your Energy

Full moons can feel intense, and the body often needs more rest, not more pressure. So if you’re feeling tired, heavy, or unfocused, trust that. It’s normal.

A major thing to include in what not to do during the full moon is:

✨ Don’t push yourself beyond your energetic limits.

  • Say no.
  • Cancel plans.
  • Rest.
  • Hydrate.
  • Replenish.

Your mind and spirit are doing a lot behind the scenes. Let your body catch up.

Practice some much-needed breathwork.

5. Don’t Ignore Your Intuition

Your intuition is loud during the full moon. Like… loud loud.

This is the Universe revealing truth, clarity, and deeper wisdom.

Here’s where what not to do during the full moon becomes powerful:

✨ Don’t brush off the signs, messages, or gut feelings that come up.

The full moon illuminates everything—your desires, your fears, your patterns, your relationships, your blockages.

Listen to what your body and spirit are telling you.

Write it down.
Sit with it.
Let it guide you toward what needs releasing.

6. Don’t Hold onto What You Know You Need to Release

Sis, the full moon is a giant cosmic purifier.
It’s here to help you let go of the baggage weighing you down—emotionally, mentally, spiritually, even physically.

One of the most transformative lessons in what not to do during the full moon is:

✨ Don’t cling to old versions of yourself.

Don’t hold onto:

  • Old habits
  • Outdated beliefs
  • Relationships that drain you
  • Fear-based thinking
  • Negative self-talk

Full moon energy is gentle but firm. If you don’t release it voluntarily, it will keep showing up until you do.

The Universe is good at that - bringing up issues that you have not resolved. I know too well. 😆

7. Don’t Skip Your Grounding Practices

Because the full moon heightens everything, you need grounding more than ever.

So another item for what not to do during the full moon phase is:

✨ Don’t skip your grounding routines.

Ground yourself with:

This keeps you centered so you’re not swept away by the emotional waves of the full moon.

This is part of your full moon self-care.

8. Don’t Manifest from a Place of Desperation

You can manifest during a full moon… but only when you're manifesting to release or realign.

What you don’t want to do is manifest from panic, fear, frustration, or worry.

So the final reminder of what not to do during the full moon is:

✨ Don’t beg the Universe for outcomes from a low-energy state.

Instead:

  • Breathe
  • Ground
  • Release
  • Realign
  • Trust

When you let go, you create space for something better.

You should be having fun and doing activities that bring joy and ease into your life.

I've learned that everything that we focus on expands, and this is especially true during the full moon phase, since everything is magnified during this time.

Final Thoughts

The full moon is a deeply emotional, healing, and cleansing moment. But it’s not the time to force change or make big decisions. It’s the time to pause, reflect, release, and honor your inner world.

When you understand what not to do during the full moon, you protect your peace, strengthen your intuition, and make space for the manifestations that truly align with you.

You're so amazingly powerful.

You're already manifesting so why not be intentional.  💫
